The Best Morning Routine for a Productive Day at Work

If your morning routine consists of hitting the snooze button, it may be time for a change. The way you confront early mornings often determines the success of your day. Start your day on the right foot for a productive work ethic and happy mind-set.

Positive thoughts
Everyday can be a great day if you make it one- even Mondays. The simple secret to a good day at work is positive thoughts. Define your mind-set every morning when you wake up and the rest will follow. Tell yourself all the reasons it’s going to be a great day instead on focusing on the negatives. A good way to do this is to make a mental list of 3 things you are grateful for each day.

Exercise
If you dismiss early exercise because ‘you are not a morning person’, you are not doing yourself any favours. Early exercise is the best thing you can do if you are not a morning person! Small doses of morning exercise wake the body and mind, making you more alert, energetic and mindul. It’s a great opportunity to have some ‘me time’, a period of calm before the storm.

A healthy breakfast
If you are eating toast, bagels and other carb loaded breakfasts you may notice lower energy levels throughout the day as well as brain fog and an overall sluggish feeling. This is because after a high carbohydrate intake, your insulin levels rise in order to lower your blood sugar, leaving you feeling tired a couple of hours later. For a productive day at work, eat a nutritious breakfast to sustain your energy throughout the day.

Write a to do list
Breaking down your day into manageable sections can relieve a lot of stress. Every day, write down tasks for the day and set a realistic timeframe for when they must be completed. Setting daily goals will keep you focused and determined. Make sure your schedule is always in view so you can keep your eye on the prize. Your schedule shouldn’t be all work and no play, schedule breaks and a daily treat so you always have something to look forward to.

Leave your work behind
Don’t take your work home with you at the end of the day. Leave work related stress and worries behind and enjoy your free time to give your mind a break. Worrying about work does not change anything and will only drop you into a negative and anxious mind-set for the following day.
